| Shadows of life lifted away Remembrance of unhappiness already slipping allay Forever pass over into darkness the memory of light Recollection of all is denied, as the coffin is sealed tight The life is over that once this body held in spirit, mind, and soul For Death has come and claimed eternally this toll Persons above weep o’er a grave for a life none could have saved “Weep for me today, but tomorrow forget For in God’s eye, my death day was set Look to the heavens and remember only that my smile was warm For now let pass by sorrow’s storm” They looked on the grave and read the deceased’s last request And followed her wishes, as it seems for the best… S. | Sorrow's Storm
I wasn't ready yet to say goodbye To lay these unrequited hopes to rest I just couldn't utter the word farewell As life passed between the cradle and grave
In a weeping willow grove we parted As meadowlarks sang lullabies above For an innocent born silent and still I beseeched eternal sleep safe to keep
Wondering unnoticed among the stones Playing with the shades, revenants and bones A lone soul lost in gardens forsaken Will not from infinity awaken
From shrouds and shadows despair ascended Leaving me despondent herein to dwell A nightmare then from the ashes arose To consume my mind's each waking moment
A denied dream born away on the wind Was rent from me and then torn asunder In sorrow's storm, oblivion took flight Obscuring ever after from my gaze

| Thank you! You may notice that a few of the lines from this one have made their way into our music.. Read this poem and play "Among the Stones" for a comparison... This was the root poem from which I eventually wrote the lyrics to that song. S. Lee | |

| The Chase
Who are you and why do you walk through the garden in my dreams? The music in the air is sweet but sad I can’t place your profile in the light of day The garden’s paths twist and turn I never manage to catch up, it matters not how fast I run So many lights and sounds distract me I see only a flicker of your continence Just enough to know that someone is there ahead of me If I keep running and following the shadows might I see your face? I want more than anything to find that which I seek In the depths of darkness how might my life be changed if you were to slow down? This deft figment will never wait for me to catch up And the garden is truly a maze with no real end Whose beginning fades from my memory with waking every morning Each time the music swells and the light pierces my eyes and heart Until the next time I fall asleep, then the chase begins again…

| Potentialities
If before the beginning of consciousness, there was no time? Then, imagine that all was a blank void You awaken in darkness, and time itself begins You yearn for something other than an empty and undefined nothingness Your thought wills into existence light to bring definition to the unmitigated darkness To create a separation of tangible things from intangible ideas With the advent of time, your conscious mind desires a way to remember what was A means to define and record what is, and conceptualize what might someday be Both the light and a consciousness of time rend the void Encroach on the realm where an innumerable chaos of possibilities held equal potentialities And threaten to erase from present and future memory all that passed before you awoke Once the light overcomes the darkness and time passes beyond a moment, recollection If something fails to pass from individual consciousness into the collective memory It passes beyond memory and remains forever lost Within the imprecision that rules chaos and the void Silent and silenced voices remain forever quiet to our ears Invisible to myopic perception, and a veritable conception of the human condition Both past and present eclipsed by the marching of time

| Pastel Shadows: A Short Story
I do not know what made us different. God or biology or some other infinitesimal error when we one became two in the warm dark haven of the womb. I just know that while we had the same features in the mirror, we were different. We had the same eyes, nose, and hands. Everything down to the last colored strand of hair on our heads appeared the same, but somehow looks were deceptive. Audren was as unlike me as a mirror image can be. She was deep, while I lived in the moment to the fullest extent. I always smiled and laughed and talked. She was beautiful in passing and resplendent in her serenity. An angel no one perfectly understood, this pastel version of myself included. She was and is my other half, the one with whom I shared my every thought. Yet, she lived locked within her own mind for seconds, minutes, or hours depending on the day. Her brown eyes so like mine, yet they could see beauty in something mesmerizing. While, I merely found her the object of wonder and fascination. I chased butterflies and felt the wind on my face. She could hear the drop of dew slide down the pedals of a flower and watch it forever and then a day. I spoke for both of us for a long time and no one really noticed, until Audren stopped smiling altogether and only answered others in one word or a short phrase or not at all. Then one day I noticed too. She spoke with her eyes, and for a time I understood still what she said to me without word. For a while, gesture or shared thought sufficed. But slowly she slipped away even from me. She left me alone more often to see the world in the smallest of things. She traveled in her mind to a place so deep and buried that the darkness scared me. She could always see a light even in the deep of night. She once told me she could hear the stars move. I believe that she could, but I will never hear her describe the process in the voice so much like hearing a muffled recording. She writes in her journal, she is not entirely lost to me. But she never looks anyone in the eye, she glances to the side. I feel so alone, like the sea without color. Like the water without the brine of salt. I feel the wind but Audren may never realize it is there. How can I be so connected to someone so different, she, my sister, is a ghost of myself. She spins, she rocks, she loses time and place or just wanders off to be alone leaving me behind alone in the thoughts we once shared and to communicate only in a few brief phrases aloud that hold over from the special language we made between each other from the time we became aware of separation, our twoness. She never cries. Her face is like alabaster stone. She feels strongly about her colors, her palate, her painting. She speaks through them, but just not in words. I watch in rapt fascination while she paints or spends hours arranging flowers into still life. Somehow, we who once were one now walk alone. I am left to live in the pastel shadows of our shared vividness.
