Another chapter of the Nightwish story has ended today. Nightwish and Anette Olzon have decided to part company, in mutual understanding, for the good of all parties involved.

In recent times it has become increasingly obvious that the direction and the needs of the band were in conflict, and this has led to a division from which we cannot recover.

Nightwish has no intention of cancelling any upcoming shows, and as a result we have decided to bring in a substitute vocalist starting in Seattle 1.10.2012. Her name is Floor Jansen from The Netherlands (ex-After Forever, ReVamp), and she has graciously stepped in to help us complete the Imaginaerum world tour.

We are all strongly committed to this journey, this vehicle of spirit, and we are sure that this will lead to a brighter future for everyone.

We forever remain excited about the adventures to come, and we are extremely proud of the two beautiful albums and the wonderful shows we shared together.

I just can't... so upset right now

I can't help but feel sorry for Annette, obviously I don't know all the details of how this has come about, but whatever she has had a tough time from all the Tarja fans who have found it difficult to accept anyone could replace her. It all seems strange to replace singers in the middle of a world tour, much as I like Floor and look forward to seeing her in November, this has come as a bit of a bolt from the blue.
No doubt there will be a large clamour now for the return of Tarja in the long term but after the acrimonious nature of the split I can't see that as even a remote possibility, lets just hope the new singer doesn't have to endure the same level of enmity.

Reading Annettes blog (which she says will now be closed) get the impression she was not happy about being replaced for some US shows and rather they had been cancelled, but wasn;t consulted. http://anette-olzon.blogspot.de/

ffm bands always have the most random departures...

I'm so deeply saddened by this. This was some of the worst news to ever wake up to in my life. My heart feels so broken and to think it's not even been a whole week since I saw Anette on stage with Nightwish! I just couldn't have seen this coming... I mean I've always had a fear in the back of my mind that what if Anette were to leave Nightwish, but to actually have it happen? And I wonder if this is how it felt all those years ago for fans when Nightwish and Tarja parted ways. Yet I feel like this is worse because Tarja still does music, but I have no indication that Anette will continue with this since she's already changed her name back from Olzon to Olsson. I just can't even deal with this. This is just so overwhelming.

So, has anyone seen any of the performances with Floor? If so, what do you think?

I think she does an amazing job of the Tarja-era songs. The new songs don't seem to suit her voice that well, but that could just be her being unused to that style or me still being too sad about Anette

I have to agree when it comes to songs like Scaretale (I just wish she'd kick the power on SQUEALING PIGS) and also Storytime. However, she sings Dead To The World so perfectly I could cry.

Floor is one of the best singers out there and I can see her being a perfect fit and will do a superb job with Nightwish,but a little part of me is not sure I want her to get the job permanently.Thats no disrespect to her or the band, as I say I think they fit together perfectly and look forward to seeing them in November.I just think creatively and artistically Floor has more to offer than just being the singer in someone elses band and with Nightwish being Tuomas's baby I'm not sure how much creative input she will be allowed to put in.Still good luck to her and the band, and to Annette too in which ever direction her career goes.

^ Completely agree with you there, also I don't know if she'd be able to cope with obvious stresses within the band and the intense touring, after all she did just have a burnout recently.

I can't say that i was surprised when i heard the news that Nightwish had parted company with Anette ..... i think that there had been problems for a while and the band were looking for a reason to kick her !!! Not really a nice way to do it but hey, it was'nt nice how they got rid of Tarja either !!!

Floor seems to be fitting in well with the band and her vocal suits both the Tarja and the Anette era songs ... from the live vids i've seen i expect the band to confirm Floor as their permanent new vocalist early next year !!! I wish her the best of luck and hope she does'nt suffer the same fate as her predecessors !!!

They didn't kick Anette out though. Just sayin'.
